Well, I mean, duh.
Everyone is laughing and pointing at Mitt Romney this morning because they say he made the worst kind of gaffe in politics, he told the truth.
I actually think this plays well into the conservative base who believe that the poor get too much money from the government, stolen from the hard-working middle class of producers and laborers. They have a safety net. What about us? It taps into the resentment that middle class conservatives feel about social programs in general, while also allowing them to feel morally superior because at least the safety net exists and they contribute to it.
My question for Mitt has to do with his promise that, “if [the safety net] needs repair, I’ll fix it.” So, tell us Mitt, when was the last time a conservative “fix” for the safety net didn’t involve cutting it or making it smaller?
